One is a mysterious recluse who went 26 years without playing any live shows, and one is a super talkative road warrior who's been blogging beautifully for years and whose stage banter can sometimes verge on oversharing. They are a deeply, deeply odd couple. But Texas folk-improv enigma Jandek and Mountain Goats frontman John Darnielle are all set to link up. This should be a weird one.According to an Independent Weekly blog post by Pitchfork contributor Grayson Currin, Jandek will play one of his exceedingly rare live shows on February 22 at Chapel Hill, North Carolina's Gerrard Hall. Whenever Jandek plays a live show, he does so with one-time backup bands. At the Gerrard Hall show, Durham, North Carolina resident Darnielle will be one of those one-time sidemen. He'll play keyboards, and according to Currin, "this marks Darnielle’s first public appearance on keyboards since age nine." Brian Jones of the Richmond jam band Agents of Good Roots drums and Anne Gomez of the Durham experimental band Cantwell Gomez & Jordan will play bass. And Darnielle and Jandek will probably have some sort of terrifically awkward interaction backstage.
