Another couple of days, another couple of million new Lil Wayne-related mp3s. I'm so motherfucking shocked I could write a blog post. Hey, mixtapes!Remember Friday, when I said that one of the bigger trends in blog-era hip-hop is "stuff that sounds like M.I.A. or Santogold"? Well, here's another one. Only instead of sampling Santogold's "Shove It" like Jay-Z/Kanye West or Three 6 Mafia/Project Pat, Wayne and one of his Young Money signees jump on the same album's Diplo-produced "Unstoppable". First the guy from "Degrassi" (and that hott "Little Bit" remix) raps about "Boy Meets World". Then Weezy raps about lollipops, where he has condos, and how to run Louisiana without pulling a hammy. Both verses are adequate, and "Unstoppable" still sounds really good, dubby and insistent. But I'd still rather hear all of these artists working on something new rather than fishing for cheap publicity with a so-so remix of a track already resurrected twice for the Top Ranking mixtape. Post, download; rinse, repeat. Yo dawg I herd Xzibit ate his own long tail.MP3:> Santogold [ft. Drake & Lil Wayne]: "Unstoppable (Remix)"Also surfacing this weekend was "Prom Queen", the first taste of Wayne's, um, rock album. But not the first taste of Wayne singing over a rock arrangement: See "Hot Revolver", where he quotes Green Day, or Fall Out Boy's ridiculously good "Tiffany Blews". This lead single from Rebirth is in the same non-alt alt-rock vein, an AutoTune'd up Weezy rhyming about adolescent underpants-peeping and girls not liking him (rather than licking him). So I guess he has the mainstream rock audience figured out. I can't decide whether his next "ft." should be with Blink-182 or Bloodhound Gang.
