Those of us hoping that Sebadoh's 2008 reunion tour would give life to some new recordings might have to wait a little while longer, seeing as that Jason Loewenstein (drummer and bassist for said pioneering indie outfit) has hooked up with Fiery Furnaces' drummer Bob D'Amico for a little project they're calling Circle of Buzzards. While the duo are hard at work cooking up an EP (and a few live dates at the end of this month and into February), head over to the band's MySpace for a look at a couple of "embryonic demos", including the epic, sludge-y "Realizing Emptiness". Loewenstein, who has been a touring member of Fiery Furnaces, will be handling bass duties and leaving D'Amico the keys to the drum kit, resulting in a pretty low-end-heavy outing. "Emptiness" certainly subscribes to Sebadoh's lo-fi leanings, but swaps out all pop sensibility for something a little more bong-oriented: swampy reverb, mildly foreboding lyrics, and D'Amico going all Garth Algar on the skins.Stream:> Circle of Buzzards: "Realizing Emptiness"
