Once and future Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus announced a new album last month. Traditional Techniques, the follow-up to last year's electronic solo album Groove Denied and 2018's Jicks LP Sparkle Hard, is a collection of folk-rock songs recorded with Matt Sweeney and the Decemberists' Chris Funk.

The Decemberists came back earlier this year with the slightly synthier new album I'll Be Your Girl, which found the hyper-literate folk-rockers working with indie-world superproducer John Congleton for the first time. And in a couple of weeks, they're coming back again with a new EP called Traveling On.

Hyperliterate indie-rock veterans the Decemberists put out their synth-heavy new album I'll Be Your Girl earlier this year.
