Devo have responded to John Hinckley Jr.’s claim that he was never paid royalties for a song he “co-wrote” with the band. Hinckley, of course, is the the would-be assassin of former President Ronald Reagan. In 1981, he shot the president and three others, but was ultimately found not guilty by reason of insanity and was sentenced to a psychiatric institution. Hinckley had been reacclimating to society since some restrictions on him were lifted in 2016, and just last month was granted full unconditional release, which means he is now allowed on social media. “Back in 1982 I co-wrote a song with DEVO called ‘I Desire,” Hinckley tweeted earlier this week. “It is on their album Oh No, It’s DEVO. The album is still selling worldwide, especially in Japan and Europe. I haven’t seen royalties in 35 years. What’s the deal?”

Paul Simon: Picks His Seven Favorite Songs (And The One He Loathes)
submitted by Nick Mar 15th 2024 02:00 pm (www.stereogum.com)
I don’t tend to think of Paul Simon as an old man, but the guy has been around since the early ’60s, and he is 82 years of age. It’s nice that the world gets to appreciate a legendary figure like that while he’s still around to see it. The first part of In Restless Dreams, the new Paul Simon docuseries deb...

Joanna Newsom: Announces 2024 LA Residency Including Matinee Show For Kids
submitted by Nick Mar 11th 2024 03:00 pm (www.stereogum.com)
Joanna Newsom live shows don’t happen very often. Newsom hasn’t released an album since 2015’s Divers, and she’s played exactly one concert in the past four years. That gig was last year, and it was a surprise set opening for Fleet Foxes in Los Angeles. (Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold set the whole ...

The last time the California avant-metal band Mr. Bungle appeared on this website, it was not for a good reason. In January, Theo Lengyel, the band’s original keyboardist and saxophonist, was arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend. Lengyel parted ways with Mr. Bungle after the release of their 2005 album Disco Volante. ...

The Jesus and Mary Chain: Announce New Memoir Never Understood
submitted by Nick Mar 1st 2024 04:00 pm (www.stereogum.com)
The Jesus And Mary Chain have had a wild run over the past forty-plus years. Brothers William and Jim Reid grew up on a Scottish council estate, and they started a band whose noise-blasted fuzz-pop inspired multiple generations of music. Along the way, the group played notorious shows that devolved into violence, went through countless lineup ch...
