Following yesterdays announcement that Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz perhaps, maybe, possibly, doesn’t know if he’ll ever rejoin the cult Chicago emo stars, Blink 182 bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus announced via his Twitter that he’ll be replacing Wentzy in the band.Wentzy Tweeted back: “[Fall Out Boy] just got a whole lot more hit songs! I can’t believe I quit the band!”However, Hoppus’ time in Fall Out Boy was remarkably short-lived when he announced immediately after joining the band that “For the record, as of right now, I am also quitting Fall Out Boy.”Thankfully acclaimed US singer/songwriter John Mayer has decided to step up to the mark and announced via his Twitter that “I am replacing Mark Hoppus in Fall Out Boy.”Mayer quickly followed up his Tweet with another unveiling Fall Out Boy’s new frontman: “As defacto leader and bass player of Fall Out Boy, I am thrilled to announce Queensryche's Geoff Tate is our new singer."While Wentzy declined to comment on these fresh Fall Out Boy line-up changes, he did give fans an insight into what musical direction he’s taking next: “I want to make music that is exclusively played at sporting events,” he Tweeted.Gentlemen, in case you haven’t checked your calendars, April the first is still two months away.
