Despite bassist Shavo Odadjian's Twitter post earlier this month suggesting a possible reunion, System Of A Down are officially not reforming according to frontman Serj Tankian.Messageboards and blogs went into overdrive after bassist Shavo Odadjian posted a message on his Twitter on January 12 asking, "Are [you] guys ready for System?" System Of A Down went on hiatus in 2006 after co-headlining that summer's US Ozzfest with Ozzy Osbourne. Frontman Serj Tankian embarked on a successful solo career, releasing the album Elect The Dead, which reached Number Four on America's Billboard Top 200 chart upon its release in 2007. Guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan formed Scars On Broadway, whose eponymous debut album was released in July 2008. Speaking to Kerrang! in 2006, Odadjian said System Of A Down would be away for a "minimum of three years" which would make 2010 the year for a possible reunion. However Tankian has told fans that that the band are on an "indefinite hiatus"."We call it an indefinite hiatus and that's how we still look at it," the singer told Billboard. "Nothing's changed. We always have offers to play but we haven't decided to do anything yet."
