For those heading uptown Friday night to NYC's American Museum Of Natural History Friday, site of the FADER-presented Animal Collective DJ set/One Step Beyond party, the onstage visual was 33% true to Animal Collective onstage visuals of the past year -- Geologist crouched over a table of equipment, less one Noah Lennox and one Avey Tare. It was truth in advertising, still; as they've made clear over the years, most recently is this Deakin-less MPP phase, Animal Collective is technically any combination of its principals ... apparently even if it is just one lonely principal. The offstage visuals were slightly less ordinary, though, a party full of trendy cocktail quaffers hobnobbing in the Hayden Planetarium to booming beats courtesy of Geologist and a special-guest DJ set from Fischerspooner. Even Michael Stipe, most recently seen blowing up Twitter by hitting Salem's set at the tiny Williamsburg space Glasslands two days after celebrating his 50th, turned up to continue his birthday week scenesterism. He was more likely there to support his good friend Casey than to bear witness to the polyglot groove bits Geologist served, but still, the man spends his nights out in style. As you'll note in these photos by Dominick Mastrangelo, the event also featured the unveiling of Fischerspooner's high-concept (obvs) video for "The Best Revenge," which you can check out below. Animal Collective: Watch Animal Collective Play Fallon
submitted by Nick Oct 5th 2012 01:00 pm (stereogum.com)
Last week, Animal Collective put in an appearance on Conan. And last night, they made their second late-night TV appearance of the Centipede Hz cycle, playing “Rosie Oh” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. They brought the same giant-glowing-teeth stage set as they had on Conan, and Panda Bear did the Phil Collins/Don Henley sin...

Animal Collective: Watch Animal Collective Play Conan
submitted by Nick Sep 25th 2012 03:00 pm (stereogum.com)
Last night, Animal Collective, who don’t exactly spend a ton of time on the late-night talk-show rounds, came through Conan and played their frantically dubby Centipede Hz single “Today’s Supernatural.” They brought their trademark total lack of stage presence and performed in what looked like a series of ...

Animal Collective: Flying Lotus, Huun Huur Tu @ Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood 9/23/12

Animal Collective have moved up from playing the Wiltern to Hollywood Bowl in support of their latest album Centipede Hz. It was an assault of hallucinogenic visuals and sounds with the Hollywood Bowl providing the perfect setting for a gorgeous night. Flying Lotus took his set to the next level as he sandwiched in between [...]

Animal Collective: @ Paramount Theatre, Seattle 9/18/12
submitted by Nick Sep 19th 2012 05:00 pm (stereogum.com)
It came at about 40 minutes into Animal Collective’s US tour kickoff in Seattle last night: the moment — The Moment — when band and audience reached a hard-earned, mind-expanding equilibrium. At that point everything about the concert changed. Here and now, the crowd, initially reluctant and resistant to the band&am...
