Peter Gabriel's first album in seven years is a Bob Ezrin-produced orchestral covers collection called Scratch My Back. It reportedly features reinterpretations of the folks mentioned above along with Elbow, the Kinks, Talking Heads, Lou Reed, David Bowie, and Neil Young. It's being called a "song swap," which implies some artists will also cover Gabriel, or each other, though we don't have all the details just yet. We do have a video of Gabriel and a string section doing Paul Simon's "Boy In The Bubble," before which he explains the project and introduces collaborator John Metcalfe, who's said (at Gabriel's site) that the album is acoustic, sans guitars, drums or "world instruments." So, many strings. This take on the Graceland opener happened at the WOMAD festival in July. We also have a possible Scratch My Back tracklist, but you know how those things go.Continue reading Peter Gabriel's Scratch My Back Features Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Bon Iver Covers...

Genesis: Will Have Exciting News Tomorrow
submitted by Nick Aug 21st 2014 07:00 pm (stereogum.com)
Before the solo careers of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, and long before “I Can’t Dance,” Genesis were a cultishly beloved British prog band. The band’s arguable masterpiece was 1974′s The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, a double concept album that was Gabriel’s last with the group. It tu...

Genesis: Classic-Era Genesis Lineup Reunites For Documentary
submitted by Nick Jun 16th 2014 05:00 pm (stereogum.com)
Last time we checked in on Genesis, both its prog- and pop-era frontmen did not rule out a reunion of its classic lineup. Specifically, late last year Phil Collins allegedly said something about “maybe [playing] some shows again, even with Genesis” in a German newspaper, then Peter Gabriel responded to that in Rolling Stone b...

Peter Gabriel: Asks Air France To Stop Shipping Monkeys
submitted by Nick May 21st 2014 07:00 pm (stereogum.com)
Peter Gabriel famously jammed with bonobos in 2001, and his affection for his fellow primates runs deep — so deep, in fact, that he penned a letter on behalf of PETA UK to Air France (the airline, not the defunct Swedish Balearic pop project) asking them to stop shipping monkeys to be used for laboratory [...]
