We've heard bits and pieces of Devendra Banhart's 14-song major label debut, What Will We Be. First it was a couple of songs live in San Francisco. Then we got the studio take of "Baby" (though we've since been promised a new Wu-Tanged version). Now we can dig a bit deeper into the collection via the sleepy penultimate track "Wiliamdzi." What you're about to see is not an official video. It's footage of Banhart and band recording What in Northern California that's been set to the song. So, yeah, you can close your eyes if you want, and chill.Continue reading New Devendra Banhart - "Walillamdzi" (Stereogum Premiere)...

We don't have an exact release date, but Devendra's new label, Warner/Reprise, sent out a stream of What Will Be a couple days ago, so we do have the track list. We also know Banhart's sixth album runs for 50:31 and were told "the stuff sounds wicket good..." (Thanks for the tip, Lars.) The 14-track collection follows 2007's Smokey Rolls Down Th...

We heard new live Devendra Banhart last week. Today we can offer the recorded variety, though it's not from his next record: "Lindo Cihuatlán" shows up on the soundtrack for "Rudo y Cursi," the flick that reunites Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna for the first time since "Y Tu Mamá También." They play two brothers working as laborers in rur...

When My Morning Jacket released Evil Urges, "Highly Suspicious" immediately stood out from the rest of the track list with its disco falsetto, group chain-gang vocalisms, and, most of all, its peanut butter pudding surprise. It's no surprise (sorry) VHS Or Beta chose the song for their remixing purposes: It was already halfway to being a Nitzer ...
