When Bradford Cox's server got hacked, a version of the unreleased Atlas Sound LP Logos spread all over the web. As he told us recently, that was just a draft; the real LP is a far cry from Let The Blind..., less laptop/bedroom pop, more collaborative, more global. That previous LP recalled some of the spirit if not the sound of Panda Bear's stunning Person Pitch, so the news that Noah Lennox would contribute to Logos made sense spiritually, and also made sense because the boys are bros. Cox detailed the genesis of the collab in a recent interview with P4K: I toured for a period in Europe with Animal Collective, whose band dynamic was very inspirational to be around. On the bus, we often played improvised iPod games. We would take turns formulating a theme or unifying concept and then play three songs. The goal would be for everyone to try and figure out the theme. During one of these games, someone played 'What Am I Going to Do' by the Dovers. I was amazed at the hook-- a weird organ thing with drums and electric bass. I mentioned to Noah [Lennox] that someone should really sample that riff. He agreed and he taught me a little about sampling and matching up beats. This ended up as the collaborative effort 'Walkabout'As we learn today, the collaborative effort "Walkabout" is a total jam, equal parts Bradford, Brian Wilson, and "Bros." Great start to the LP, but also maybe one day we should petition for a Panda Cox album. Continue reading New Atlas Sound (Feat. Noah Lennox) - "Walkabout"...

From "Unfuckingbelievable" to, golly, pretty damn impressive already: the good people behind All Tomorrow's Parties (and, full disclosure, our partners for the first night of the past few Pitchfork Music Festivals) have revealed the first batch of performers for the previously discussed second edition of their wildly successful ATP New York even...

Deerhunter's music has touched on a lot of different styles, from jagged post-punk and slack 1990s-style indie rock to murky garage-psych, airy shoegaze, propulsive krautrock, drifting ambience, and noisy Merzbow freakouts, with fragile dream-pop and German techno minimalism asserting their influences on lead singer Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound so...

His Halloween treats already in the bag, Bradford Cox has shifted his attention to remixing recent tourmates Stereolab's Chemical Chords track "Neon Beanbag." This is his so-called "Southern Baptist" remix. The opening preacher man sample sounds familiar. As far as the song itself, Cox sets chillier tones against claps and an overall phased, les...

I'm not a close follower of the Deerhunter blog, but the piece Bradford Cox wrote about Stereolab's "Blue Milk" about a year ago has stayed with me, because I felt like he and I hear the same things in that amazing song (he gets a Pitchfork dig in there, too, but whatev). Atlas Sound, Cox's side project, recently spent a few weeks opening for St...
