Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew will likely be at it longer than you'll ever be at it. After 2006's I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass and the equally feisty Fuckbook, which they recently released as Condo Fucks, Yo La Tengo are at least a dozen proper albums into their career via the forthcoming Popular Songs. It was recorded in Hoboken and Nashville with Roger Mountenot at the start of the year. We don't know too much else about it, except that the mellow, organ-lined lead track "Periodically Double Or Triple" is a garage-y song that could have been written in the '60s, if not for the reference to Judge Judy (it opens with a reference to the equally outspoken Proust). Take a listen while you inspect the Popular Songs album art, which features a cassette in need of a revival.Continue reading New Yo La Tengo - "Periodically Double Or Triple"...

Yo La Tengo: Watch Yo La Tengo Cover The Supremes’ “Come See About Me”
submitted by Nick Mar 19th 2013 05:00 pm (stereogum.com)
When Rhino released Girl Group Sounds: One Kiss Can Lead To Another boxset, I was all over it. There’s a whole range of emotion that tends to get overlooked by the patina of choreographed pop, but when you have torch songs from Dusty Springfield, guttural yearnings from Connie Francis, and the soul singing of Diana [...]

Modest Mouse: Albums From Worst To Best
submitted by Nick Mar 6th 2013 08:00 pm (stereogum.com)
Modest Mouse is an easy band to take for granted. Emerging from the Pacific Northwest twenty years ago, it’s perhaps tempting to consider them just another “indie rock” band buoyed by Nirvana’s lucky break. Like Yo La Tengo, Modest Mouse almost immediately transcended such a pejorative tag, plotting a cour...

Yo La Tengo: – “I’ll Be Around” Video (Feat. Mac McCaughan)

Phil Morrison, who directed the movie Junebug, made the video for Yo La Tengo’s minimal-but-aching Fade ballad “I’ll Be Around,” and it’s a weirdly powerful piece of work. It starts out with Superchunk frontman Mac McCaughan lip-synching the song in some beautifully-shot verdant woods while text ...

Yo La Tengo: Watch Yo La Tengo Play Fallon With Fred Armisen
submitted by Nick Jan 16th 2013 03:00 pm (stereogum.com)
Yesterday, Hoboken indie greats Yo La Tengo released Fade, their utterly gorgeous new album. And last night, they celebrated that release by serving as musical guests on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Former Trenchmouth drummer Fred Armisen, alongside another guy I don’t recognize, sat in on drums next to Georgia Hubley as the band play...
