While we were grossly sweltering in the desert, of Montreal enjoyed perfect weather in our neighborhood for a sold-out three-night run at the Music Hall Of Williamsburg. Although it would be more fun to see what Kevin would wear in the desert. These YouTube videos suggest we missed a theatrical (though relatively tame) stage show from KB's toy factory, but instead of peripheral quips about dancing buddhas or horsefeed, these gigs offer something more aurally substantial in the form of two new tunes: "Like A Tourist" (which got its debut a week ago in Chapel Hill) and "Coquet Coquet." They're both in the realm of the psychedelically lined freakout dance stuff Hissing Fauna... and Skeletal Lamping (maybe a little less manically fractured than Lamping at least), with lots of rock in the guitars (live, anyway) and a bona fide guitar hero moment for the Late B.P. Helium on "Like A Tourist."Continue reading of Montreal Road Test New Tunes "Like A Tourist," "Coquet Coquet"...

Before 2008 ended, Kevin Barnes told us about some of his favorite things of the year. And before 2008 ended, we repeatedly told you Skeletal Lamping and its accompanying horseplay was one of ours. (You all agreed.) The rapturous "An Eluardian Instance" was always the strongest contender for single treatment, and with oM's pimped out Letterman p...
Bummer that the video for "An Eluardian Instance", a song taken from Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping, is showing now only on Rolling Stone's postage stamp-sized player, but that's what were working with. If you squint a little bit, you can make out a long series of still photographs showing a rather surreal storybook being brought to life. We see...
Back in October, of Montreal created one of the year's most iconic stage scenes when Kevin Barnes sang "St. Exquisite's Confessions" in nothing but gold lame short shorts on the back of a horse. Obviously neither the steed nor Kev's hottie briefs made it to Letterman last night, but he still brought some of Montrealesque theater to the Ed Sulliv...

Of Montreal pulled out all the stops on Letterman last night, enlisting their usual parade of fanciful props and costumes from their famously theatrical live shows. Barnes emerges from a curtained litter, decked in regal Prince purples, to perform "An Eluardian Instance" from this year's Skeletal Lamping.[Skeletal Lamping is out now on Polyvinyl]
