The Black Lips' songs, especially on 200 Million Thousand, possess a nice fuzzy texture and the Atlantans appropriate great garage-isms, but I've always been less than enthused by the band, because from carefully marketing their "escape" from India to embodying every clichéd Vice signifier on earth and the "we are loose canons" live antics, they just try too hard. Whelp, looks like they didn't try hard enough during this SXSW on-stage collaboration with GZA. Or maybe it's just that flower punks were a bit out of their comfort zone?
