The scene in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou where Sigur Rós's "Starálfur" bubbles up on the soundtrack is one of my favorite goosebump moments of the past decade of film, proof positive that the exact right match of song and visual can elevate even a mess of a movie like that one.So credit Irish writer/director Neil Jordan, the guy who made The Crying Game and Interview With the Vampire, with some truly savvy instincts. As Sigur Rós announced on their website last week, Jordan has enlisted the band's keyboardist, Kjartan Sveinsson, to write the score for his forthcoming film Ondine. A few songs from Sigur Rós will also appear on the soundtrack. In The Life Aquatic, Sigur Rós's particular brand of airy mystery worked beautifully in fantastical deep-sea scenes. From the looks of things, Jordan may have similar uses in mind for the band. IMDB describes Ondine's plot thusly: "The story of an Irish fisherman who discovers a woman in his fishing net who he believes to be a mermaid." So magical-realist Splash, basically. Nice! Also, Colin Farrell plays a character named Syraceuse, and that guy killed it in In Bruges, so this movie could be really good.

Sigur Rós’s Valtari Mystery Film Experiment, in which the majestic Icelandic band recruits different directors to make short films out of all the songs on their new album, marches on. The latest entry, for “Seraph,” may be the most fully realized yet, despite its complete lack of Shia LaBeouf. This one is a cartoon...

Here’s the latest from Sigur Rós’s ongoing Valtari Mystery Film Experiment — a project that has, thus far, featured contributions from Ryan McGinley and Shia LeBeouf — a nature-themed, mossy clip for the track “Dauðalogn.” Henry Jun Wah Lee takes the helm here. Watch it below. Valtari...
