Carefree days feel more and more distant with each skim of the ol' RSS reader, and The Boy Least Likely To's happy-sad twee-pop aches all the better for it. The UK duo of Pete Hobbs and Jof Owen can be seen scampering around a field and cruising in goofy vehicles in the video for latest single "A Balloon on a Broken String", from upcoming The Best Party Ever follow-up The Law of the Playground. "I know I look shiny and bouncy/ But I'm all empty inside," TBLLT sing, seconding the emotion of sad clowns since Smokey Robinson. Childlike sincerity-- plus a sound that encompasses zippy synths, chiming glockenspiel, warm California harmonies, and brittle new-wave guitar-- makes the sentiment their own.BONUS: A video for the flip from this double A-side single, the boyishly valiant Dexys Midnight Runners-style ditty "Every Goliath Has Its David", is also up now on Vimeo.[from The Law of the Playground; due 03/03/09 in the UK on Too Young to Die and 04/14/09 in the U.S. on +1]

For their last video, Pete and Jof went on location in Scotland, combing beaches, hitchhiking, walking over bridges and past cows all in pursuit of the first snowflake and blowing their entire video budget for their forthcoming LP. And so we have "Every Goliath Has Its David," which features the duo on a white set with little other than their da...
In their recent Progress Report, Pete & Jof said things like "mournful" and "bleak" in reference to their forthcoming The Law Of The Playground LP's lyrics, descriptors nobody first associates with TBLLT. And here they're on about their "puppy powers" and "bags of marbles" to the stomp of their smiley indie pop, but as it goes with this band...
Rock music is notoriously the realm of arrested adolescents, randy adults still acting like they're just old enough to drive. The Boy Least Likely To, on the other hand, are a different breed: The band is two grown men-- multi-instrumentalist Pete Hobbs and singer-songwriter Jof Owen-- who sound like they're just old enough to wait for the schoo...
"This record should have been released sooner," admits a press release for the Boy Least Likely To's forthcoming sophomore album, The Law of the Playground. Unfortunately, the album got tangled up in label drama, but it will finally see release March 3 via the English duo's own Too Young to Die label in the UK and in North America via +1.Contrar...
It's been two years since Pete and Jof hosted The Best Party Ever, and since we've been given just scraps and bits from their forthcoming, yet untitled record. Why the long delay since "Be Gentle With Me" struck licensing gold? It's the label economy, stupid. More specifically, their label died. As they told Jessica in the Boy Least Likely To's...
