Since September 2008 the Wexner Center in Columbus, Ohio, has presented an Andy Warhol exhibition called "Other Voices, Other Rooms". In addition to showcasing Warhol's art, the exhibition also had an extensive musical component, including presenting Dean & Britta's 13 Most Beautiful... Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests and putting on shows with bands paying tribute to Warhol associates the Velvet Underground (full disclosure: I sat on a panel as part of this series). To close out "Other Voices, Other Rooms" last week, the Wexner Center presented an evening of VU covers by local lo-fi heroes Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit. TNV's boy-girl vocals, ragged guitars, and keyboard underpinnings prove a natural match for the material, and C. Spencer Yeh and Mike Hummel chip in on violin and guitar, respectively. Lou Reed has died at age 71 according to Rolling Stone. The Velvet Underground leader and influential solo artist underwent a liver transplant earlier this year, but a cause of death has not been released. More on this story as it develops…
A three-disc bumper version of the album featuring outtakes, unreleased studio tracks and live material will be released on December 2
