f your newspaper-reading English grannie suddenly has a jones for some Sigur Rós, go ahead and blame London's Independent. Following in the newspaper CD giveaway steps trod by Prince, Ray Davies, and, um, McFly, the Independent will package a Sigur Rós disc into their inky pages this Saturday, January 31. But it's not a new album or anything-- in fact, the nine-song CD, dubbed We Play Endlessly, doesn't even contain any new songs. It's a quasi-greatest hits collection featuring three songs each from last year's Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust and 2005's Takk..., two from 2007's Hvarf/Heim, and one from 2004's Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do EP. (The disc is being presented in association with Q magazine.)No word yet on whether the Icelandic band are busy hording their riches in light of Iceland's economic collapse, but they currently have no shows lined up. Fans will be able to relive all those heartbreaking crescendos at home soon when a new live DVD hits stores later this year. As previously reported, the concert film was taped at London's Alexandra Palace last November and directed by the guy behind Arcade Fire's interactive "Neon Bible" video and Miroir Noir film, Vincent Morisset.read more

There was a time many winters ago when the sign that a band had “made it” was to get an appearance on The Simpsons. But that was a long time ago, and now it seems like more and more bands are heading over to Westeros to get some respect. According to EW, Sigur Rós are [...]

A note to future departing music bloggers: Listening to Sigur Rós while writing a goodbye post is probably a bad choice. A note to future humans on saying goodbye after nearly eight(!) years: Do it in person. That’s how I tried to break this to Scott, but due to some crossed wires we wound up [...]

The video that I saw for Sigur Rós’ “Stormur” will not be the video that you see for the track. It won’t be the video any of my co-workers sees or any of the rest of the Stereogum community checks out. The band has set up a website that collects videos from Instagram with the [...]

Back in 1999, the year Sigur Rós released their international breakthrough, Agaetis Byrjun, Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson wrote the following mission statement on his band’s website: “We are not a band, we are music … We are simply gonna change music forever, and the way people think about music...
