f your newspaper-reading English grannie suddenly has a jones for some Sigur Rós, go ahead and blame London's Independent. Following in the newspaper CD giveaway steps trod by Prince, Ray Davies, and, um, McFly, the Independent will package a Sigur Rós disc into their inky pages this Saturday, January 31. But it's not a new album or anything-- in fact, the nine-song CD, dubbed We Play Endlessly, doesn't even contain any new songs. It's a quasi-greatest hits collection featuring three songs each from last year's Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust and 2005's Takk..., two from 2007's Hvarf/Heim, and one from 2004's Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do EP. (The disc is being presented in association with Q magazine.)No word yet on whether the Icelandic band are busy hording their riches in light of Iceland's economic collapse, but they currently have no shows lined up. Fans will be able to relive all those heartbreaking crescendos at home soon when a new live DVD hits stores later this year. As previously reported, the concert film was taped at London's Alexandra Palace last November and directed by the guy behind Arcade Fire's interactive "Neon Bible" video and Miroir Noir film, Vincent Morisset.read more
