Photo by Kathryn YuMan, this song. First, it gets a great video, and now, "An Eluardian Instance", from the Skeletal Lamping LP, appears again in a new form as part of the forthcoming EP of remixes by the insanely talented John Brion (check this older piece by Rob Mitchum for a nice overview of his work). Brion's treatment, which he calls "First Time High (Reconstructionist Remix of 'An Eluardian Instance')", keeps the same general feel, perhaps adding a few more instruments and amplifying the color saturation a couple of notches. It also seems to give the song a more linear feel that serves it well.MP3:> Of Montreal: "An Eluardian Instance (John Brion Remix)"[from the John Brion Remix EP; due 01/27/09 on Polyvinyl]

Bummer that the video for "An Eluardian Instance", a song taken from Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping, is showing now only on Rolling Stone's postage stamp-sized player, but that's what were working with. If you squint a little bit, you can make out a long series of still photographs showing a rather surreal storybook being brought to life. We see...
Back in October, of Montreal created one of the year's most iconic stage scenes when Kevin Barnes sang "St. Exquisite's Confessions" in nothing but gold lame short shorts on the back of a horse. Obviously neither the steed nor Kev's hottie briefs made it to Letterman last night, but he still brought some of Montrealesque theater to the Ed Sulliv...

Of Montreal pulled out all the stops on Letterman last night, enlisting their usual parade of fanciful props and costumes from their famously theatrical live shows. Barnes emerges from a curtained litter, decked in regal Prince purples, to perform "An Eluardian Instance" from this year's Skeletal Lamping.[Skeletal Lamping is out now on Polyvinyl]
