Photo by Kathryn YuM.I.A. is really racking up the industry-sanctioned accolades now. It's getting a bit silly. Her Pazz and Jop singles win for "Paper Planes" wasn't such a big surprise-- music nerds have loved Ms. Arulpragasam for years. But non-geeks are starting to catch up. First there was that Grammy nomination, and now an Oscar nomination for "O...Saya", her collaboration with composer A.R. Rahman from Slumdog Millionaire. But if you're worrying about all these stuffy award notices suffocating her rebel spirit, worry no more. In a statement reacting to the Oscar nom, she still pretty much sounds like a badass: "This is a great honor. Thank you to all the people who are supporting us and the making of a real story of a slumdog millionaire…maybe I can afford to book Dave Chappelle at the baby shower now. Thank you again; My mum wants everyone to know what wonderful news this is for her."Moms love the Oscars. And, oh yeah, Dave Chappelle: Holler at a new mom! Or at least do something...at some point in the future! (Please.)M.I.A.'s baby is still due Grammy night, February 8. So she'll physically be able to do her thing on Oscar night, February 22, but whether or not she'll take the stage in front of Jack, Tom, Kate and every other movie star on earth is still up in the air.

Back in 2010, this site called f...

Despite an initial April release date, M.I.A.’s fourth studio full-length, Matangi, has been temporarily shelved for allegedly being “too positive.” Over the weekend, we heard a snippet of skittering but spritely and “Me And Bobby McGee”-referencing new cut “Bring The Noize” b...

M.I.A. released new material at a fashion show in Paris today, an 8-minute Matangi mix. It was used to soundtrack her collaboration with the fashion line Kenzo. Matangi is also the name of M.I.A.’s next album, which is tentatively out on April 15th, so it’s likely this mix is a sign of what’s to come [...]
