While most of the world's tussling and toiling indie rock bands would break their tour van's gear shaft to get a seal of approval from Merge Records, Glasgow twee-poppers Camera Obscura are leaving the North Carolina label behind for an imprint with even more history behind it: 4AD.According to a MySpace post, the band is "understandably excited about this but will endeavor not to reflect this in our facial expressions so as not to cause unnecessary alarm." And if that statement doesn't scream "Belle and Sebastian descendants!" I don't know what does. So yeah, you'll still be able to hug your future Camera Obscura LPs at night, but now they'll have a different stamp of cool on the back. Speaking of future Camera Obscura LPs, the group is done recording their follow-up to 2006's breakout Let's Get Out of This Country for a 2009 release. That's all we know for now, but you can search for new album hints (and hangover updates, apparently) on their brand new Twitter page.

The last time we left Glasgow twee-pop heartbreakers Camera Obscura, they were trading Merge Records for 4AD. You know, because they can. And now they're ready to dish on the details of their 4AD debut, My Maudlin Career, which will be available to buy with money on April 20 in the UK (April 21 in the U.S.). It was produced by Swede Jari Haapala...

Say it ain't so, Camera Obscura. "This maudlin career has come to an end/ I don't wanna be sad again," sings Tracyanne Campbell on the thumping midtempo title track from the Glaswegian indie poppers' fourth album (and first for 4AD), the forthcoming My Maudlin Career. The arrangment stays close to the wispy-voiced, Phil Spector-informed pop mela...
