Speaking of "Paper Planes", Santi White, and hip-hop: Compared to Tom Waits sharing a track with Kool Keith, the latest guest-star combination from the folks at N.A.S.A. is a no-brainer. "Whachadoin?" brings together M.I.A. and the singer most often compared to her, Santogold, plus a third act with ties to Diplo: rap group Spank Rock. And, presumably because four is always greater than three, there's also Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner. Yeah? The entire track list from N.A.S.A.'s upcoming The Spirit of Apollo is bananas like astro chimps, and "Whachadoin?" is, appropriately enough, a party-ready mess. The rattling beat suggests "Bucky Done Gone", Zinner's distortion-bristling guitar might've been called "cyber-funk" back when people still actually used the word "cyber", and Spank Rock are ready with their typical not-quite-bon mots about vag, YouTube, anal sex, and stuff. Lilting chorus duties appear to be split between M.I.A. and Santogold-- the latter of whom also shows up with Kanye West and Lykke Li on the N.A.S.A. dudes' "Gifted".Now if you'll excuse me: After all that name-dropping, I need to go rinse my mouth out with Drano.MP3:> N.A.S.A. [ft. Spank Rock, M.I.A., Santogold & Nick Zinner]: "Whachadoin?"[from The Spirit of Apollo; due 02/19/09 on Anti-]
