I never thought I'd be writing a headline even close to that, but in less than a year, Fucked Up's gone from the light bulb factory to playing all their indie-rock cards just right. That said, it's hard to get even slightly cynical about this: During the Toronto crew's 12-hour marathon last month, Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig showed he listens to more than Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel in his off time, giving spirited performances of Blitz's "Someone's Gonna Die," also covered by Rancid, and the Descendents' "Parents." Who would've ever thought they'd see skinheads pumping their fists hardcore style to a Koenig vocal turn on a classic UK punk song? (Not me.) The latter was written by the recently deceased Frank Navetta, so this one goes out to him.

In our feature on Fucked Up’s fourth album, vocalist Damian Abraham shed some light on the thought process behind Glass Boys: “It’s about being in a ’subversive’ young people band and waking up twelve years later and being like, ’We’re not young people any more. Where do we fit now? It’s about recognizing that the...
