Today we present the next installment in a series that brings you classic indie rock albums at hugely discounted prices. Every week, Amazon.com is letting us select one album from its MP3 store to go on super sale (up to 75% off normal prices). Hopefully you'll be able to add these must-own LPs to your library without breaking your budget. Today's deal: The Shins' Oh, Inverted World. When the Shins debuted with Oh, Inverted World in 2001, the first thing that seemed to draw a number of folks to the Albuquerque-born band was the clever Lance Bangs-directed video for "New Slang," which payed homage to the Replacements, Squirrel Bait, Slint, Hüsker Dü, the MInutemen, and others, in a way that you likely got on first glance with a smile. If you dug deeper than that track, the 11 songs on the 33-minute collection added up to a shimmering, somehow sad or dusky pop whole. This was before Garden State, though when Natalie Portman told Zach Braff, "You gotta hear this one song -- it'll change your life," she should have mentioned there were about 10 others.

Last night, the Shins showed up on the Late Show With David Letterman, blasting through their world-beating single “Simple Song.” I swear that one is like a top-five Shins song at this point; I never get sick of hearing it. Letterman, for his part, can’t think of any jokes to make at the band’s expense, [...]

A Virginia airport at 5 in the morning on the day SXSW starts, listening to an iTunes stream on crappy airport wi-fi and letting that stream rebuffer a few times on every song: These are not the ideal circumstances in which to hear a much-anticipated album for the first time. Some things, however, are out [...]

The Shins’ fourth LP Port Of Morrow streams on iTunes on Tuesday, but fans paying close attention have already heard most of the album’s songs through various teasers and studio sessions. (Specifically: “Simple Song,” September,” “The Rifle’s Spiral,” It’s ...

At least in theory, SXSW is supposed to be about discovering emerging and ascendent bands, but the fest just keeps adding big names: Bruce Springsteen, Fiona Apple, Norah Jones, John Mayer, T.I., Nas, the Shins, and — now — Jay-Z, arguably the biggest name and best live performer in rap history. Last year, Jay was [...]
