This "current artists collaborate with dead icons through the miracle of technology" thing just won't go away. Nat King Cole will follow in the posthumous footsteps of such departed icons as Biggie, Johnny Cash, Elvis, and, um, himself with the release of an album called Re:Generations.Re:Generations contains reimaginings of Cole songs by TV on the Radio, Cee-Lo, the Roots, Nas, Just Blaze, Cut Chemist, Stephen and Damian Marley, Brazilian Girls, will.i.am and Nat's daughter Natalie Cole, and Bebel Gilberto, among others.Re:Generations is also a visual arts project, with multiple Los Angeles artists drawing inspiration from the singer for the album's artwork. The image on the record's cover itself comes from Cole's eldest grandson Sage.Capitol/EMI and King Cole Partners & Productions will release Re:Generations digitally, on CD, and on vinyl on March 10. The album's tentative tracklist is available after the jump.read more

Beale Street Music Festival — now that’s some simple and direct branding. Except it’s not actually on Beale Street! Though Beale does intersect with Riverside Dr., where festival site Tom Lee Park sits on the banks of the Mississippi. I retract my statement.

Freddie Gibbs wasn’t supposed to make it this far. A decade ago, Gibbs was a major-label refugee who’d returned to his roots as a Midwest mixtape rapper. When Gibbs found critical acclaim, when he reached the point where he could perform on a festival stage in the middle of the afternoon, that felt like a triumph. But Gibbs j...
