A sense of carefully crafted naturalism fills "Blue Imelda", from Final Fantasy's Beirut-assisted Spectrum, 14th Century EP. Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett has described the EP's tracks as "fake field recordings," so it stands to reason that this one would convey a sort of ordered casualness through its intricately arranged steel pans, bird noises, and choral vocals. The video, directed by M Blash, shares this feeling of cultivated wildness, alternating in a haphazard fashion between a bottle-toting long-haired girl, a short-haired girl who signals with her hands a lot, and a variety of more abstract images. As with many things Final Fantasy, I can't help but feel like there's more going on here than I can pick up on during a couple of quick viewings.[from the Spectrum, 14th Century EP; out now on Blocks Recording Club]
