It's been a good year for Air France. Not only did the blissed-out Swedish duo craft one of the year's best EPs in No Way Down, they also bundled the disc with 2007's On Trade Winds EP as an album-length deluxe edition. Which, if you're so inclined, should be totally fair game for year-end lists, you guys. For "No Excuses (The Autumn Cantata)", remixer William Ekenberg re-imagines one of No Way Down's finest tracks as something a little calmer than the hand-clapping, string-swelling, guitar-riffing original. With acoustic guitars and gentle tambourines, it's not as powerfully transportive as the EP version, but there's still a certain innocent beauty when the chorus hits. Even that smooth-jazz saxophone somehow sounds right. Damn, I'm old. Italians Do It Better crew members Glass Candy soundtrack a new commercial for Air France. The company used “Warm In The Winter” — which is, hands down, my favorite Glass Candy track — and it seems like the duo changed up the words so that it could say “France in the air” to go along [&...
Peter Gabriel famously jammed with bonobos in 2001, and his affection for his fellow primates runs deep — so deep, in fact, that he penned a letter on behalf of PETA UK to Air France (the airline, not the defunct Swedish Balearic pop project) asking them to stop shipping monkeys to be used for laboratory [...]
They didn’t get back together. It’s probably worth leading with that straightaway if you’re one of the people (like myself) who has never gotten over the breakup of Air France (Joel Karlsson and Henrik Markstedt), whose brief 2008 EP, No Way Down, can topple entire bands’ discographies in terms of pure aur...
Earlier this week, the Swedish Balearic production duo Air France announced their breakup on Tumblr, severely bumming out a whole lot of people in my Twitter feed. Another saddened party was the duo’s evocative synthpop colleague Memory Tapes, who shouted them out on his own blog and posted a remix of their track “It Feels [...]
