Distance is no object for Hercules and Love Affair (aka Brooklyn producer Andy Butler) in this remix of Cut Copy's "Far Away", a standout from 2008 favorite In Ghost Colours. One of several remixes to appear on Cut Copy's upcoming Far Away Digi-EP, alongside reworkings by Aeroplane and others, "Far Away (Hercules and Love Affair Remix)" spirits the track from the urban disco or rock club and to a considerably more relaxing locale. It might be outer space, or it might just be the beach, but it comes with wave-like synth scales, hand percussion, and a spastic funk bass line. For some reason, Cut Copy frontman Dan Whitford's clipped, high-pitched vocal here sounds especially like David Byrne's, but that might just be the trebly, staccato guitar-like noises. This must be the place.[from the Far Away Digi-EP; due in the UK 11/24/08 on Modular]

Based on their early aesthetics alone, Passion Pit arrived at exactly the right time. 2008 was a moment when rainbow-hued, fizzy, synthy indie rock reigned supreme, and nobody did it quite like Michael Angelakos and Co. Any of the other sugar rush greatest hits from that year -- Cut Copy's In Ghost Colours, M83's Saturdays…
