"It was a real bonus that she helped, from [having] so much experience on the songwriting front," longstanding Pipette Gwenno Saunders said of her new Pipettes bandmate Anna McDonald in an interview with Pitchfork news last month. At the moment, it's not hard to imagine Gwenno regretting those words. After a roughly six-month tenure with the Pipettes, McDonald has left the group to "pursue a song-writing career outside of the band," according to a post on the band's MySpace blog. Mcdonald, who co-wrote the Sugababes' recent hit "Girls", joined the group back in April in the wake of the exit of Rose Elinor "Rosay" Dougall and Rebecca "RiotBecki" Stephens. Gwenno's sister Ani remains with the group, and as the post notes, "as such, our quest for the perfect Pipette continues."McDonald's unexpected exit has caused a slight change in plans for the Pipettes, who won't be making it to Cardiff, Wales this weekend for their appearance at the Sŵn Festival. Despite the tumult, a gig next month in London appears to still be on for the moment, and "plans to record the next Pipettes album are still afoot." read more
