Photo by William KirkNorthampton, Massachusetts high schooler Clara Gardner was recently struck by a car driven by an alleged drunk driver, resulting in the loss of both of her legs. Her friends came together to organize a benefit concert for Gardner, which will take place November 1 (tomorrow!) in the auditorium of the Northampton High School.Nice guy Jens Lekman-- who notes on his blog that "I don't usually do benefit shows"-- will perform at the event, which is open to the public. "I was very touched by Clara's friends who came together and arranged all this for her," Jens writes. Those who wish to know more or would like to donate to Gardner's cause are urged to e-mail eric.warren@gmail.com. The esteemed Mr. Lekman has yet another show coming up, not this weekend but next, at Williamsburg, Virginia's Sadler Center. (Yes, the other Williamsburg.) He'll also lend a cover of a Merge Records tune to the label's forthcoming SCORE! compilation series. Shame he can't cover that Kells/Kid Rock/Luda tune for it, eh?read more

Motown Philly's back again, this time in the Swedish hands of Jens Lekman. It's true, the silent one did a cover of Boyz II Men's "Water Runs Dry" a couple nights ago at Google Googie's Lounge as part of his "special guest" role for countrywoman and labelmate Frida Hyvönen . Boys II Men's original showcased their four voices and flowing white l...
Jens Lekman played a few songs ahead of fellow Swede Frida Hyvönen's set Tuesday night at Googie's Lounge in New York, BrooklynVegan reports. As shouldn't be too surprising from a guy who had a roomful of Williamsburgers dancing to Mariah Carey during his CMJ set less than a month ago, one of those songs was a Boyz II Men cover. Lekman...

Well, this is it. For any Jens fan who also reads blogs that post about the Black Cab Sessions, getting Jens to croon this tune for the series was always to be the apex of punny possibilities. We couldn't resist mentioning it when Death Cab played for Black Cab, and according to the note that accompanies this performance, neither could the BCS's...
What better subject for Black Cab Sessions than Jens Lekman, the whimsical, melodic Swede whose "Black Cab", found on 2005's Oh You're So Silent Jens, still ranks as one of his best songs. Lekman leaves behind the the Left Banke- and Belle and Sebastian-derived orchestration of the original version to play his "Black Cab Sessions" "Black Cab" on...
