Photo by William KirkNorthampton, Massachusetts high schooler Clara Gardner was recently struck by a car driven by an alleged drunk driver, resulting in the loss of both of her legs. Her friends came together to organize a benefit concert for Gardner, which will take place November 1 (tomorrow!) in the auditorium of the Northampton High School.Nice guy Jens Lekman-- who notes on his blog that "I don't usually do benefit shows"-- will perform at the event, which is open to the public. "I was very touched by Clara's friends who came together and arranged all this for her," Jens writes. Those who wish to know more or would like to donate to Gardner's cause are urged to e-mail eric.warren@gmail.com. The esteemed Mr. Lekman has yet another show coming up, not this weekend but next, at Williamsburg, Virginia's Sadler Center. (Yes, the other Williamsburg.) He'll also lend a cover of a Merge Records tune to the label's forthcoming SCORE! compilation series. Shame he can't cover that Kells/Kid Rock/Luda tune for it, eh?read more
