There was no horse this time. Nary an orgy or fife-playing satyr. An acoustic in-store may not offer the same baroque pageantry as Friday's set at Roseland, but last night's of Montreal Rough Trade East performance did give attendees a close-up listen to -- wait -- the band's songs. Yes, remove the red body paint and gold short shorts and you not only have a nude Kevin Barnes, you also realize (again) that Skeletal Lamping's songwriting can be just as ambitious as oM's visual cluster-fuck. (Minus the possible cruelty to animals.) Watch the nubile miscreants.

of Montreal: & Solange Covered Jackson 5, Susan Sarandon Spanked Pigs At The Highline Ballroom Last Night
submitted by Nick Jan 27th 2010 03:01 pm (stereogum.com)
About the most surprising thing about seeing Solange turn up at onstage with of Montreal at the band's tour opener Monday night was Kevin Barnes's beard-commitment (although we've even seen that before). The younger Knowles cameos on the next oM album, and they've been making public appearances together for a minute. Sometimes sexual torture dev...
