Final Fantasy photo by Hedi SlimaneThe Brooklyn Philharmonic-- certainly the only orchestra I can think of who play in skinny jeans and neck scarves, JK LOL-- will spruce up sets from Grizzly Bear and Owen Pallett's Final Fantasy at a joint show February 28 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gilman Opera House. Led by conductor Michael Christie, the BK Phil are set to accompany both GB and FF as they perform their respective tunes. Pallett, being that sort of guy, will come up with the orchestrations for his own work, while young composer Nico Muhly will assist Grizzly Bear with theirs. The show is the latest in Christie's BP Presents series, which previously brought the likes of Antony Hegarty (of Antony and the Johnsons) and Muhly together with the orchestra. The date is but one of two planned events Grizzly Bear have on the docket at the moment; the other, of course, is that Obama-boosting bingo party at the Horticultural Society of New York this weekend. As for Mr. Pallett, the second of his two fall EPs, Plays to Please, is due in limited physical numbers October 21 from Slender Means Society, States Rights Records, and Blocks Recording Club. And he, too, has but a few tour stops scheduled at the moment.read more
