Photos by Kathryn YuJeff Mangum's first live appearance in ages and that totally batshit insane Diesel party sure looked nifty, but the award for biggest spectacle in New York City this past weekend should probably go to Of Montreal, who hit up Roseland Ballroom Friday night in support of upcoming disc/sticker set/tote bag/etc Skeletal Lamping. At this point, Of Montreal's live thing has evolved into something the term "rock show" couldn't hope to sum up, and indeed something this paragraph couldn't possibly contain. Photos do words one better in this case, however, and there are plenty of those for your perusal below. And Love Is All are a great band, but I'd be amazed if anyone remembered a thing about their opening set after the variety show on acid that followed. In other news from Of Montreal, the band should be playing an acoustic in-store at Rough Trade East in London right about now, NPR is currently streaming an October 9 performance from Washington, DC right here, and Skeletal Lamping is due on shelves October 21.Of Montrealread more

of Montreal put out the solid country-tinged album Lousy With Sylvianbriar last year, and now have released a video for album track “She Ain’t Speakin’ Now.” Directed by Nina Barnes — wife of frontman Kevin Barnes — the video layers different images of people over a ton of filters, colo...

The name of the game for of Montreal has always been evolution. Their current incarnation, making its debut on their newest album Lousy With Sylvianbriar, favors whip-smart, sinewy rock songs, eschewing the dance pop they’ve embraced in recent years, while baring a faint resemblance to the classicist proclivities they favored early in ...

of Montreal have delivered a clip for Lousy With Sylvianbriar lead single “Fugitive Air.” The arty Athens indie vets enlisted Kevin Barnes’ wife Nina, who previously worked on “Sails Hermaphroditic,” to direct and she’s culled together a combination of deliberately-shot footage, as well...

The Georgia art-glam institution of Montreal rarely goes long without releasing a new album. Their next one is called lousy with sylvianbriar, and frontman Kevin Barnes recorded it at home on a 24-track recorder. The album is only a week away from release, and we’ve already heard the early tracks “fugitive air,” &am...
