Having wrapped up a Faith No More reunion in 2012, Mike Patton found some time to resurrect Tomahawk. Propelled by the furious drumming of John Stanier (Battles), the metallic drone guitars of Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard) and the sludgy bass lines of Trevor Dunn (Melvins), Tomahawk are touring in support of their new album Oddfellows [...]

The four members of the scrape-rock supergroup Tomahawk — Mike Patton, Battles’ John Stanier, the Jesus Lizard’s Duane Denison, Melvins’ Trevor Dunn — are all virtuosic maulers of their respective instruments, and every so often, then all converge to make an unholy din. Oddfellows, their new albu...

When everyone’s schedules are clear enough, the former Faith No More/Mr. Bungle gibber/scream master Mike Patton gets together with Melvins’ Trevor Dunn, the Jesus Lizard’s Duane Denison, and Battles’ John Stanier to make viciously seesawing rock music as Tomahawk. Around the time Faith No More broke up, Mike Patton started a new band with a particularly burly and vicious lineup: Melvins’ Trevor Dunn, the Jesus Lizard’s Duane Denison, and Helmet’s John Stanier, who would later become the best part of every Battles show. Tomahawk has been largely inactive since 2007, but they&a...

Jesus Lizard fans love to swap war stories. They’ll tell you about how bassist David Wm. Sims almost impaled them with his headstock during one of his trademark gyrations, how guitarist Duane Denison stomped on some poor crowd-surfer who launched into his amp, or how vocalist David Yow — having already partially half-exposed ...
