The utterly chill and dadded-out indie veterans Real Estate do not strike me as the most natural touring partners for the frenetic, experimental, nouveau-hip Water From Your Eyes. But the bands were on the road together this month, and one thing they apparently have in common is a love for Pavement. Onstage Sunday at Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse, the bands joined forces for a cover of “Grounded,” an epically downcast all-time classic from 1995’s Wowee Zowee. Matador announced Stephen Malkmus’s latest album with The Jicks today via their Matablog. The record’s called Mirror Traffic, and it was produced by Beck Hansen. Malkmus and Hansen recorded the album in early 2010, but because of Pavement’s touring schedule, they put Mirror Traffic on hold until they had more time. ...

Charm City Cakes’ horse-shaped Quarantine The Past cake made it to Pavement during one of their Central Park Summerstage Shows as part of the previously mentioned episode of the Food Network’s Ace Of Cakes. Watch the awkward footage here.

Pavement will appear on the Food Network show Ace Of Cakes on Thursday. Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, Maryland bakes them the sugary, horse-shaped cake and present it to the band after one of their reunion shows.
