Chris Bailey, the singer, songwriter, and sole permanent member of the legendary Australian punk band the Saints, died Saturday. Now his fellow Australian music icon Nick Cave, Bailey’s longtime friend and collaborator, has shared a written tribute to Bailey in the latest issue of his fan-mailbag newsletter The Red Hand Files. A reader named Dan posed the question, “I just heard about Chris Bailey’s death. What an amazing voice, what an amazing scream. Can you tell us something about what he meant to you as a young musician in Australia?” Here is Cave’s reponse:
