By any meaningful measure, the troubled young Baton Rouge rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again is one of the biggest stars in all of rap music. YoungBoy continues to crank out new music at a wild clip — his Colors mixtape came out just last month — and his YouTube numbers are mind-boggling. But YoungBoy still seems like an outsider within the larger rap establishment. Part of that is because YoungBoy seems to be in constant legal trouble; he’s currently, for instance, awaiting federal trial on gun and drug charges. (Last year, the FBI arrested YoungBoy on an outstanding warrant after a brief chase.) But YoungBoy also seemingly has a hard time getting along with his rap-star peers.

Here’s something funny: Gucci Mane records a goofy-ass song called “Scarface,” which is all about his stupid, ridiculous face-tattoo of an ice-cream cone with lightning bolts coming out of it, and how the existence of said face-tattoo makes him a scarface. ATL trap music icon Gucci Mane will put out a new mixtape next week, and today he released the title cut, “I’m Up,” a lurching Drummer Boy production that features the ubiquitous 2 Chainz. Drumma Boy gives these dudes a softball — it’s unspectacular in the sense that it’s one of those &...

Flying Lotus and Beach House both make supremely chill, critically acclaimed music. Both have probably soundtracked a whole lot of drug experiences. Also, FlyLo once remixed Gucci Mane, and Beach House once covered Gucci. But that doesn’t mean they’re best friends. As Pitchfork points out, FlyLo had some mildly critical words...
