Kindred spirits Steve Gunn and William Tyler played the first night of what was supposed to be a co-headlining tour at the Bell House in Brooklyn last night. BrooklynVegan reports that everyone at the gig — which included Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley — was required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated. But this morning, Tyler apparently tested positive for COVID, meaning that he’s cancelling all his shows in the next week and that Tyler will be headlining solo. That sucks, and is a disheartening reminder that the pandemic is far from over. Regardless, you can enjoy footage of Gunn and Tyler joining forces with violinist Laura Ortman and guitarist Alan Licht to cover the Velvet Underground’s “All Tomorrow’s Parties” during last night’s encore. Watch that below.

The Velvet Underground: Macaulay Culkin’s Pizza-Themed Doused In Beer, Booed Offstage At Dot To Dot Fest
submitted by Nick May 26th 2014 04:00 pm (stereogum.com)
Macaulay Culkin’s Pizza Underground started as a total joke but has gone through a twisted hype cycle that has made them into a real band, or at least a band real enough to get third-line billing at the UK’s Dot To Dot Festival. The audience didn’t take to Culkin’s innocuous pizza-themed Velvet Underground...

Here’s something Wikipedia just taught me: “RocKwiz is an Australian television quiz show series, focused on rock music and featuring different guest artist musicians who perform live in each episode.” That sounds like a great show! I wish we had it over here! A recent episode featured the team of one actual Austral...

The Velvet Underground: We Saw Macaulay Culkin’s Pizza-Themed Cover Band Last Night
submitted by Nick Dec 14th 2013 05:00 pm (stereogum.com)
I have seen the future of rock and roll, and it is delicious. Stepping into Williamsburg’s Baby’s All Right, I was hit with the intoxicating perfume of freshly baked dough and I knew I was in the right place. They were a young band, not too many shows down so far, with all the songs [...]
