And today, they’ve dropped an extremely cool surprise in the form of a new remix from electro-funk legend Egyptian Lover.

At a show they played together a few weeks ago, My Morning Jacket and Neko Case shared a stage to cover the immortally goofy Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers duet “Islands In The Stream.” And now they’ve done it again, teaming up to cover another early-’80s car radio staple, albeit one with a lower cheese factor....

As part of the encore to their Pittsburgh show at Stage AE last night, MMJ brought opener Neko Case onstage to duet with Jim James on “Islands In The Stream.” The treacly Bee Gees-penned tune was originally intended for Marvin Gaye, but instead became a #1 hit for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton in ’83. Baltimore-via-Greenville trio Future Islands is a great band, one that remains unduly overlooked and underrated. If you missed 2010′s In Evening Air, go back and discover it. If you’re uninterested in the past, here’s a new song, “Before The Bridge,” the A-Side to a forthcoming 7″. We&a...
