Back in 2017, shortly after Tom Petty died, Spoon’s Britt Daniel was one of 74 artists who told us about their favorite Petty songs. Daniel picked Petty’s Full Moon Fever classic “A Face In The Crowd.” Here’s what he had to say about it:Divine Fits played “You Got Lucky” at just about every gig we had. What an insane single. It’s got an intense lyric and the most powerful, creepy guitar riff and somehow Dan was able to tap into that attitude every time. It was the greatest feeling in the world to be in a band that could play that song and pull it off. But since yesterday the song I keep playing is “A Face In The Crowd,” a ballad that came out as I was graduating high school and leaving my hometown and most of the people I knew forever. I relive that moment in the song. The minor chords, the vocal, the melody — all haunting and timeless.Back in October, on the day that Petty would’ve turned 70, Spoon took part in Petty’s virtual birthday bash. On that show, the band covered “A Face In The Crowd,” as well as Petty’s 1976 hit “Breakdown.” Those covers hadn’t been archived or on demand, but today, Spoon have released those two covers.

Time for your daily dose of Dark Was The Night. "Well Alright" is credited to Spoon according to the liner notes, and to Britt From Spoon (Feat. A Drum Machine) according to your ears. Not to look a charity-comp contribution in the mouth, but the bar is high. This sketch-song races along in under three minutes with two tracks of acoustic guitars...
In its 23 years of existence, nobody has managed to adequately explain why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame needs to exist. Apparently it's necessary for an entire generation's self-esteem that a museum in Cleveland anoint some arbitrary crew of rock stars every year. Well, the Hall of Fame just announced its 2009 inductions, so here we go again. ...
At this point you've likely heard "Ulysses" and its "funky" Spoonerisms in more than one form. We weren't blown away by the track then (or now), but after listening to Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, we can understand why the guys chose it as the single: While nothing special, it's better than most of the upbeat fare offered on the Kapranos crew's fol...
So what we have in the lead single to Tonight: Franz Ferdinand is the Kapranos crew tumbling one of their signature disco hooks through some Spoon, some dirty club synths, and a narcotic, half-time (and somewhat throwaway) bridge. The video picks up on all of it, and also the crime scene album cover, showing the guys in their signature suits but...

The last official Paul McCartney video we posted came via Michel Gondry and starred Macca along with Natalie Portman and a bunch of raving ghosts. This Marco Sandeman-directed clip for Memory Almost Full bonus track "222" takes a darker, more minimalist and psychedelic route. It looks a bit like a high school science experiment. As far as the so...
